SCOTT LOVE SPEAKS

Love swore an affidavit about what happened attached at the end of Mandi's new filing. In it, he said he walked through Mulrenin's unlocked door because he was jealous, saw Mandi was drugged and only then became angry, tied Mulrenin up, and then cut Mulrenin loose and left before Mulrenin went over.

love_affidavit_filing.pdf

What is the advantage to Love saying that he tied someone up whom he didn't tie up? Love said he cut Mulrenin loose with a pocket knife. There are no cut cable ties, and neither the cable ties nor duct tape were ever in a small enough loop to hold a man's hands. They were both the size of a large man's thigh. Why use both? If you have cable ties, why not start with the cable ties? Or if you start with duct tape, why not finish the job with duct tape? Why cut off the tape already on there? The answer is because the duct tape didn't stop the bleeding because it went slack when Mulrenin straightened his leg, because your leg is like your bicep, and gets skinnier when you straighten it.

The main point of Love's story, is that Love is still saying he was not in the apartment when Mulrenin went over. I don't think that is true. The footsteps Ashcroft heard could have come at any time. Ashcroft was asleep when he heard them, and he was led to try to make sense of it later. But the rolled-up carpet, and the recliner pulled forward over the blood, suggest someone trying to hide the blood after Mulrenin went over.

Why not say he tied Mulrenin's wound, and then left before Mulrenin went over? Maybe if Love admits someone field dressed Mulrenin's wound, he is worried you could argue Mulrenin wanted to go to the hospital and Love wouldn't let him or something? Maybe because Mulrenin tried to climb down to get help from his friend below, as part of this conspiracy to keep police put of it? Maybe Love just doesn't think anyone will believe that he was helping Mulrenin stop the bleeding, and so he says what you want to hear? Love is a weird liar, he tries to be very agreeable, this might come from being an addict which forces people into a life of lying to family.

There are a lot of examples in this case and other cases, where for argument's sake, people tell stories that simply accept the details other people are arguing, but explain them in their own way. In the movie "Spies Like Us" the Dan Akroyd character says the female character is carrying a highly-sophisticated classified piece of intelligence hardware. The Chevy Chase character accepts Akroyd's statements, but then turns it into she is a high-class, sophisticated, intelligent piece. Love originally did this with the fake video times, accepting that he arrived around the same time as Mandi. So now maybe he just feels forced to accept that Mulrenin was tied up, and argue from there.

I don't think anyone would argue 1) Love's story probably contains some lies for some reason, and 2) there is no guarantee any lies Love tells would make sense to a rational person. It is an insane strategy to lie and say you tied someone up when you didn't. Maybe Love just thinks it is the best way to have himself out of the apartment and not associated with Mulrenin going over. Being outside the apartment when Mulrenin goes over, is more important than helping Mulrenin versus tying him up.

Love also did not need to admit he hadn't slept for three days and smoked meth. So it is worth considering whether he is genuinely selfless, and thinks saying he tied up Mulrenin is the best story to help Mandi.

Maybe Love just thinks the whole stopping the bleeding thing is weird, and would rather say he tied Mulrenin up but then cut the cable ties (which definitely did not happen, though the duct tape was cut). Love's mind is not right, and he thinks this lie will better cause people to believe he was outside of the apartment not causing Mulrenin distress when Mulrenin went over. Maybe it is like a strategy of admitting something crazy to get credibility, then spend that credibility on the bigger item. Maybe Love thinks the cut in the duct tape is best used as an exhibit to prove he was not a threat to Mulrenin.

It looks like they tried twice to stop the bleeding with duct tape, and one of those times involved something on the duct tape like paper towel to pack the wound. It could be when the duct tape failed, they decided the bullet was still in there, and wanted to use the cable tie tourniquet while getting it out, and this is when Mulrenin put on the gloves. But if Mandi had anything to do with it, even drugged, I think she would see there was an entry and exit wound. There were two blood spots on the duct tape where the entry and exit wound would be.

Mandi does not have long nails in her police interview. It would be hard to tear off two fingertips pulling the gloves off her hands. In prison we compared our fingers, and some of hers were half the width of mine, no exaggeration. They would not put on the tape if they wanted to get the bullet out, and I think Mandi would see there was an exit wound if she was involved, and the best evidence fit is Mulrenin was wearing the gloves. Maybe the three gloves were totally unrelated?

I am confident Mandi either never saw the cable ties that night or doesn't remember seeing them (I am also now pretty sure she does not remember the duct tape loop). I now believe Mandi doesn't really think Mulrenin got shot in front and knows she is lying, based on our discussions. I don't think Mulrenin would want to do anything that would draw police curiosity if it could be avoided. It may be for that reason Mulrenin preferred to get help from his trusted neighbor below, Jerome Ashcroft, without going through the halls bleeding. I consider it unlikely that they both believed the bullet was still in there, and wanted to get it out.

Do I think Love was in the apartment when Mulrenin went over? Yes. Do I think Love caused Mulrenin to go over? No. Do I think Mulrenin would have gone over if Love didn't come? No. Do I blame Love for Mulrenin going over? No. Love could beat me with a gun, point it at me, and tell me to jump, and I wouldn't. Anyone would try to talk or fight his way out of it, not jump. But to repeat, Mulrenin was not even in a situation like that.

The three things in Love's story I disagree with are 1) Mulrenin was not tied up, 2) Love was in the apartment when Mulrenin went over, 3) Love probably took the wallet off the kitchen counter after Mulrenin went over. Love did not mention it, but his story fits my belief he located the apartment by seeing Mandi on the only lit balcony. I also think Love knocked angry from seeing Mandi drugged from outside and thinking it was me, whereas he says he was not angry until he got inside and saw Mandi drugged (one might guess he is denying premeditation).

Note on Motorcycle: Mandi believes Chris Dahl drove Love there. I mentioned to Mandi that some people were saying Love rode a motorcycle (Love swore at trial he rode a motorcyle, and Mandi's lawyer asked Mandi's roommate at deposition if Loved borrowed one). I told Mandi my problematic observation that Love's hat would have blown off if he were riding a motorcycle (Love also would have been cold riding a motorcycle in that attire). Mandi responded "He could have taken it off. He had a bag." Mandi did not try to dissuade me from believing Love could have ridden a motorcycle. She said Love could have taken his hat off purely in a tone of disconnected scientific analysis of my statement in isolation. Mandi did not seem to care one bit what I believed about how Love got there. Whereas in other areas when I discredited her stories, she seemed to have an emotional stake and come up with new facts to bolster her idea. This bolsters my belief that Dahl drove Love there, rather than it being something Mandi wants me to believe as part of a fake robbery story. (Though Mandi's dad may have had some connection to Scott tracking Mandi and having aggression toward me, which connection they now want to hide.)

FINAL ANALYSIS: The two main things Love left out of his story, are:

1) Love saw Mandi drugged on the balcony, then saw the guy with the two black-and-white dogs, thought it must be me, and went up and knocked angry, and forced his way in. Love now says he did not see Mandi was drugged on the balcony until he walked through the unlocked door, because he wants to say he did not premeditate any violent crime at the time he trespassed, and did not violently force his way in, it all happened in a moment of passion. (Love may have told Mandi he saw her on the balcony but not told her he came in because he thought it was me, and then Mandi incorrectly hallucinated that to know she was drugged, Love must have been spying on her from inside the apartment.)

2) Love left out Mulrenin sitting in the recliner bleeding for a few minutes while they tried to stop the bleeding. The things I believe Love did after Mulrenin went over are pull the recliner over the blood puddle, roll up the carpet with blood on the corner, and maybe use paper towel from the kitchen to wipe some of the blood off the sofa. So Love does not want to draw any attention to the sofa where there is evidence Love was there after Mulrenin went over. If Love says the tape is to stop the bleeding, the someone would ask how did the (planted) gloves get in the car, and when was the sofa pulled over the blood puddle? So Love just says that tape was from tying Mulrenin up on the floor (where there is no blood puddle).

If Love said he thought it was me, but then he helped Mulrenin tape up the wound when he found out it wasn't, that suggests premeditation to hurt me before Love got into the apartment. Why help a guy whom a moment ago you were fighting with? So maybe saying Mulrenin was tied up rather than taped up, avoids the true story which involves premeditation, then discovery it was the wrong guy. Saying he tied Mulrenin up draws attention away from pulling the sofa over the blood after Mulrenin went over, and draws attention away from the premeditated reason Love knocked and forced his way in.

It is true the duct tape was cut. Maybe Love was in the kitchen looking for a dish rag or something to put under the tourniquet before tightening it. And Mulrenin decided Love is crazy, and he is going to get help from Ashcroft instead. You may wonder, is a 52-year-old man really going to try to climb down to a lower balcony just to avoid walking around the halls bleeding? A very intelligent man who was Mulrenin's close childhood friend and also knew that Mulrenin was friends with Ashcroft, said confidently that climbing down is something Mulrenin would do. It sort of hinted to me Mulrenin may have climbed down before, though he didn't say that. If Love says "I was going to get an oven mitt to put under the tourniquet and Mulrenin jumped", Love would expect to get blamed.

MANDI'S STORY

Early 2023 note: I visited Mandi in prison again, and I am certain 1) her conscious and vengeful intention is to lie that Scott did a robbery, and 2) saying Mulrenin was shot from in front is the central event of this fake story. As to whether Mandi actually knows where and when Mulrenin was shot, I don't think she does know. She probably came up with the shot-from-in-front thing by looking at the recliner photo. Quite a bit of Mandi's fake story seems to have been influenced by her lawyers, who also then rejected using it for various reasons. But the girls in prison who get out every day by lying about others, and Mandi's famiy who have not seen the evidence, encourage Mandi to tell this silly story.

The court filing which contains Love's story also contains an impossible story by Mandi, which I have explained before as her not knowing what happened owing to being drugged at the time, being drugged in isolation since then, and piecing together her statements from other people. I originally did not think Mandi was lying in the sense she was not trying to mislead. But now I think she knows she is lying, but thinks this is fair and how things work, this is what the legal system actually wants her to do. And since she does not remember much, she is trying to stand up for herself with the best story of what really happened she can come up with. Mandi may even think this is the story Scott told Chris Dahl. Mandi's story does focus on Love doing more bad things than he really did. But Mandi is so earnest about them, I think her motive is more to make sure people know Love really is a bad person in general whom Mandi really does blame for Mulrenin's death, than to falsely accuse Love.

Mandi has Mulrenin freeing himself from the duct tape before he is shot. Never mind he could not free himself. This does not fit with the large amount of blood on the duct tape which matches Mulrenin's entry and exit wound. Mandi has Mulrenin sitting on the recliner when he gets shot, then getting up and running toward the balcony. This contradicts that Mulrenin was shot from behind at an angle when he could not have been sitting as Mandi described to me, and then sat in the recliner bleeding for at least a few minutes.

Mandi said to me in prison in 2021 only that Scott asked where the money was, not mentioning drugs. I understood this to mean Scott asked where was the money Mulrenin said she would get for coming over. Mulrenin gave her none. This fits Scott's story. I also pointed out to her in prison, that rummaging through a kitchen drawer does not fit searching for valuables. (Looking back at 2021, it seems like Mandi kind of slow-walked her story to me, kind of mentioning each piece one at a time to see what I would think. It is for this reason that it wasn't until 2023 that I put together the whole point of her story.)

Mandi's latest story has Scott hitting her after he grabs her jacket from behind when she is face down. Mandi in prison mentioned Scott grabbing her from behind while she was face down, but was not real clear about Scott hitting her at this time. I remember her saying Scott hit her at some point in their life, and she did say Scott was physically aggressive towards her when he grabbed her by the back of the jacket. It's a gray area whether her story changed to add the "hitting", and to add that Scott was "yelling". If her story did change and go up a notch, I don't know that it is straight up lying, probably more just trying to make sure she gets her point across when nobody believes her. She is dialing it up to 11, in hopes the listener will at least perceive a 6.

I think Mandi maybe did say something about Scott shouting or hitting her when he grabbed her from behind, the first time she told me her silly story in prison. But at that point her timeline and other things were so screwed up, my belief meter was way down. I was still trying to sort out what to believe, and why she was saying things that didn't fit the evidence, whether she was lying or dreaming or what, and what parts were true. I have since concluded it is as if she wasn't there, but a few very direct things like being grabbed and shouted at she would remember accurately.

In prison, Mandi said Scott was going through the spatula drawer in the kitchen when Mulrenin got up off the floor and sat in the recliner. I asked her why Mulrenin would go sit in a chair if there was a guy in the kitchen he was just fighting with. Mandi did not know why, and did not mention Scott approaching Mulrenin with a gun until after Mulrenin was sitting in the recliner. As you know, Mulrenin had already been shot at this point, and was bleeding when he sat down in the recliner.

My best understanding is Love ran toward the balcony after Mulrenin went over, in response to it. Mulrenin went to the balcony while Love was in the kitchen. If Love had really chased Mulrenin to the balcony, Love would have caught up with Mulrenin while Songer and Smith were saying "don't do it, don't do it". Songer and Smith would have seen the silhouette of a six-foot guy with hat and beard with all that illumination. I went to the Lofts myself a few days later and there was still a ton of clear illumination on Mulrenin's balcony. It was kind of a museum spectacle for the people out in the field, because you could clearly see a lot of the scene.

There was that lid from a triangular plastic tube, that matched the square tear in the loveseat. It could have stored the pill Mulrenin used to drug Mandi. So it is possible, but maybe a little too neat, to wonder if Love was demanding to know where are the drugs Mulrenin drugged Mandi with, and then Love took those pills in that tube with him. And then Love boasted to Dahl that he tied Mulrenin up and stole his drugs, when in reality he tried to pack Mulrenin's wound.

I am thinking of doing a full recreation video.

JULIE MADARA

Almost six years later, I am now increasing the amount of talking I think Mandi did with Julie Madara. Or maybe just listening or even just overhearing. The trick is that it was actually Madara doing all the talking boasting gossip to everyone in the jail, and Mandi doing the listening. Madara knew Chris Dahl and claimed to know something about what happened. Mandi may have been trying to find out from Madara's gossip, how and why Scott came. Mandi heard Madara say the gossip from Conway that Mulrenin was drugged in his drink and thrown off the balcony in a robbery. Mandi then called her mom and said she just found out (from Madara) that there were drugs in her drink, but still insisted it was not a robbery and Mulrenin jumped. Madara's lawyer Chris Smith then told his office mate Adam Reiss, that Madara was saying Reiss's client Dahl drove Scott to Mulrenin's house, you better go up to Seminole County and talk to her. It was probably then Reiss who told Madara that Mandi not Dahl dropped Scott off up the street.
